Doctor with all due respect, I think you might be missing something here. In regards to bite force, pits have a wider jaw than Sheppard's, so mechanically the have the same force, but it's being spread out across a wider surface area resulting in a lower PSI from the pit than the Sheppard. The "lock jaw" phenomenon is also easy to explain. In arm wrestling, at the start you can "lock your arm" (see video link at the end) Arm locks are entirely dependent on the bicep muscle. In a dog bite this would be the macerator group of muscles, specifically the masseter muscle which is very pronounced on pits (almost like a bicep on their face). This is why a bite test is misleading, you need to a jaw opening resistance test. You're right, there is technically no mechanical "locked jaw" but as in arm wrestling, these dogs have a greater ability to put load on the masseter which allows them to resist opening, that along with the wider surface area of the jaw allows them to hold larger objects while shaking. I found a bunch of kittens but I hate cats now I’m feeding their moms and made tiny homes for them but some of them have an eye infection. I don’t know what I should do I don’t know how to handle cats and I don’t even like touching them but I can’t just not help babies even if they’re cats. If anyone reads this what should I do or have I done enough?

Thank you for this, I have been deeling guilty over putting my 18 yeat old cat down. She would only eat every 2-3 days, her legs were not working and she was defacating everywhere and voniting blood. She was upset, weighed nothing but had moments pf her being okay, so it was confusing. My vet did a quality of life exam and she said if it was hers, she would do the kind thing. I just thought she would pass naturally. I was hoping. Hardest decision ever! ❤

I agree they have been around for a long time. My sister-in-law's family bred them in 1950 and they were show dogs. I also know that in the 50's and before, many white Shepherds were put down because they were considered poor genetics. Thank goodness this not the case now (as I understand) The whites are beautiful!

I love any shepherd. Mine just turned 10 back in March. If I had to take a guess she'd be the west german line working shepherd. She's been a sweetheart since she was born. Gets along great with the neighborhood kids, any adults and any other animal, dog, cat, bird, squirrel and so on. Never shown any aggression. Also have been told by several people she is one of the prettiest gsd they seen. Not overweight but very large for a female, 95 to 100 pounds. Much larger than my dad's gsd. I know the local police use the first one, east german ddr. Sadly lost "Fury" their k9 to a rear end collision in the squad car. My friend who is a marine veteran just got a gsd puppy and wants to train for bomb sniffing. Very smart, loyal dogs.

That particular shampoo shown here is strong, I wouldn’t put it on my dog either. I will use natural products as much as possible.

There isn't a function needed from a dog that a German Shepherd cannot perform. They are the most universal and versatile canine in the world. Retriever, shepherd, companion, police, guard, hunter of vermin, guide... they aren't just beautiful, they are intelligent and useful. Simply put, the German Shepherd is the world's best dog. (Side note: the one I had as a kid understood American English and two Germanic dialects; Hochdeutsche and Yiddish.)
